How To Find Shutter Count On Canon For Mac

How To Find Shutter Count On Canon For Mac Rating: 6,6/10 8905 reviews

I came across this today when trying to find the shutter count on my canon t5. I read that it works across all canon and nikon cameras. It worked perfectly for my t5. ShutterCount displays the number of shutter actuations (the shutter count) of your Canon EOS, Nikon or Pentax digital camera - see the complete list of supported.

Yet another shutter count application, sorry: app (we’re in the Apple domain this time).

DIRE Studio released a nifty app for the Mac that does just one thing: it displays the shutter count of your Canon DSLR (yes, Magic Lantern shows it on the camera display, but not everyone has ML). The app has a special introductory price of just $1.99 until October, 30th. The following cameras are supported:

  • Canon EOS-1D X
  • Canon EOS 5D Mark II
  • Canon EOS 5D Mark III
  • Canon EOS 6D
  • Canon EOS 7D
  • Canon EOS 60D
  • Canon EOS 70D
  • Canon EOS 100D / Rebel SL1
  • Canon EOS 600D / Rebel T3i / Kiss X5
  • Canon EOS 650D / Rebel T4i / Kiss X6i
  • Canon EOS 700D / Rebel T5i
  • Canon EOS 1100D / Rebel T3 / Kiss X50

More information after the break.

ShutterCount displays the number of shutter actuations (the shutter count) of your Canon EOS digital camera. The shutter count is read directly from a USB-connected camera, and thus provides accurate numbers that are not attainable with simple EXIF-based methods.

With ShutterCount you can easily check whether a newly purchased camera is really new, or check how heavily used a pre-owned item is. For machining purposes cast iron is considered. And you can save a trip to a Canon Service Center by doing the reading for yourself.

The app provides unlimited readings for an unlimited number of cameras, so you can freely track actual camera usage. Even if you work for a rental house or just lend a camera to a friend.

ShutterCount only displays the shutter count for still photos – video clips recorded are not included in the number. For a separate mirror movement reading (that includes videos) you should consult an authorized Canon Service Center.

Note: for the best compatibility with your camera it is recommended to upgrade the camera’s firmware to the latest available version.

WiFi on the EOS 6D and 70D must be turned off as it blocks the USB port when turned on!

Checking the current actuations/shutter count of a camera is extremely useful, especially if you are trying to sell your camera or if you have bought one. Any of the following methods are super easy and fairly quick.

Method 1

Upload a jpeg to https://www.camerashuttercount.com. This website scans the uploaded image and reads the EXIF data of the file which should contain the shutter count.

Method 2

Alternatively, if the method 1 does not work, you may download and install FreeShutterCounter. If needed, set your camera’s communication settings to PTP, connect the camera to your mac using a USB cable, then press on the “Get Shutter Count” button. This should also give the current shutter actuations of your camera.
