I have been trying to use VLC to view files created by kmttg. kmttg allows for processing of files from a TiVo.

I use kmttg all the time to download shows from my TiVo Roamio. I save the files as H.264 encodes, which makes files about half the size of the original MPEG2 files from the TiVo. I then upload these to my NAS, and serve them from a plex server running on a mac mini. It works flawlessly, and the quality of the archived files is superb. If I download in .ts format, WMP can play it but it has no captions. VLC just shows a black screen. If I rename the file to .mpg.ts, VLC is able to play it and show captions (but not the captions created with kmttg). When I reported this to the kmttg author, he seemed shocked. Did this used to work in the past without renaming the file? I was not sure if this would be considered to be a bug or not.
